The Rafales would now be acquired by a separate process
The meetings of the Indian Negotiating team with the French side have commenced.â€. A Negotiating Team has been constituted to negotiate the terms and conditions of the procurement of 36 Rafale jets and recommend a draft agreement. One key issue was the IAF seeking modifications on the Rafale so that a particular set of weapons could be integrated on it. After expressing the intention to acquire 36 French Rafale fighters, defence minister Manohar Parrikar had some months ago told Parliament that the earlier-issued Request for Proposal in 2007 for 126 Medium Multi-role Combat Aircraft had been "withdrawnâ€. Some say the cost could be made significantly lower by France after price negotiations earlier hit a roadblock. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while visiting France earlier this year, said India would acquire 36 Rafale MMRCA aircraft, citing the IAF’s operational necessity. The two leaders agreed to conclude an Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for supply of the aircraft on terms that would be better than conveyed by Dassault Aviation as part of a separate process underway, the delivery would be in timeframe that would be compatible with the operational requirement of the IAF; and that the aircraft and associated systems and weapons would be delivered on the same configuration as had been tested and approved by the IAF, and with a longer maintenance responsibility by France. Some earlier reports had claimed the negotiations had run into rough weather over the "offset clause†and tweaking of weaponry technology, which was "driving up the costâ€.In a detailed statement in China Fiberglass insulated ladder suppliers a written reply to Parliament, Mr Parrikar had said: "As per the India-France Joint Statement issued by the two countries during the Prime Minister’s visit to France, the Government of India conveyed to the Government of France that in view of the critical operational necessity for Multi-role Combat Aircraft for Indian Air Force (IAF), the Government of India would like to acquire (36) Rafale jets in flyaway condition as quickly as possible.
The Rafales would now be acquired by a separate process.Dassault, which manufactures the Rafale, had earlier been selected the lowest financial bidder in the MMRCA process, but as the protracted contract negotiations made no headway, India had decided — during Mr Modi’s visit to France — to acquire 36 Rafales by a separate process. While the Rafale fighter deal is expected to be signed with France during President Francois Hollande’s January visit to attend the Republic Day celebrations, where he has been invited as chief guest, While the Rafale fighter deal is expected to be signed with France during President Francois Hollande’s January visit to attend the Republic Day celebrations, where he has been invited as chief guest, the actual cost of the proposed deal still awaits direct contract negotiations between the Indian and French governments

The new offerings will enable AWS customers to develop and quickly
The new offerings will enable AWS customers to develop and quickly "train†their own artificial intelligence algorithms, build software applications capable of translating language on the fly, analyse video, and scan text for trends or key phrases.
Among Amazon’s AI announcements is Amazon SageMaker, which lets companies build and quickly train machine learning algorithms. Throughout 2017 both Microsoft and Google announced AI services that rival those unveiled this week by AWS.Already Apple, Facebook, Amazon and other top tech companies are developing and using AI for their own products, but the new offerings from AWS could make it easier and more affordable for startups and less tech-savvy enterprises to implement AI technology. Machine learning (ML) is a subset of AI in which sophisticated computer algorithms are developed to recognize patterns in large volumes of data to solve problems on their own. Amazon this week announced a flurry of new machine learning features for its Amazon Web Services cloud computing business, raising its challenge to Silicon Valley’s biggest tech firms for the lead in artificial intelligence. And Google Cloud Platform introduced the Google Natural Language API, a rival to the new Amazon Comprehend, last November.Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to machines carrying out tasks that are normally associated with human intelligence. The product announcements made at AWS’s annual conference in Las Vegas, cap off a year in which Amazon released 1,300 new AWS features, up from a little more than 1,000 in 2016.Among Amazon’s AI announcements is Amazon SageMaker, which lets companies build and quickly train machine learning algorithms.Microsoft, for example, offered Translator, a direct competitor to the new Amazon Translate, as far back as 2011, Microsoft said.â€
We expect the big three to conveyor belts Suppliers continue to play a game of leapfrog over the next several years as the enterprise moves from experimental to industrialisation of AI and machine learning," said Ken Corless, a principal in Deloitte Consulting’s cloud engineering practice.â€Despite being the pioneer and dominant player in the cloud computing market, AWS is playing catch-up to chief rivals Microsoft and Alphabet’s Google when it comes to new AI offerings, several of which will not be generally available until sometime in 2018. For example, with two of the new AWS features a company could quickly transcribe customer phone calls and then analyse the text for customer sentiment. â€Given their market share, AWS’s announcements are significant as they are signalling to the market that they will not cede this space to Microsoft or Google.
As always, Amazon is making it easier for companies to get started using new technologies,†said Mikhail Naumov, co-founder of DigitalGenius, a London-based customer service startup that uses AI. It also announced Amazon Rekognition Video, which uses AI to detect objects and faces in customers’ video content; Amazon Transcribe, which turns audio into text; Amazon Translate, which translates text; and Amazon Comprehend, which analyses text for sentiment and key phrases. "Now they are making it easier for companies of all sizes to leverage powerful ML tools in their business. The new offerings will enable AWS customers to develop and quickly "train†their own artificial intelligence algorithms.â€."If Amazon can offer products that are just good enough, it can use its leading position,†said Chris Nicholson, CEO of Skymind, a San Francisco startup that provides AI solutions for enterprises

The Silicon Valley company also made public Cloud Machine Learning Engine
The API is the first-of-its-kind, enabling developers to easily search and discover video content by providing information about entities, for example, dog, flower or human inside video content," said Chief Scientist Google Cloud (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) Fei Fei Li at Cloud Next conference here. The cloud-based Video Intelligence Application Programming Interface (API) that helps locate the exact frame from a large video database. This level of metadata enables organisations to find new ways to re-purpose their existing video and create new monetisation opportunities. Citing example of usage, she said, "Media organisations are sitting on years of archived content, with very little metadata on what is in their content
